I’ll Say It…

Fashion Rocks was much better than the MTV Video Music awards.

Rihanna opened on the type of show that she should be on – music meets glamour. I think she has an incredible snse of style and her performances of late have been well-rounded: costume, dancing, glamour. She opened with Madonna’s Vogue. I suspect she was singing over a track, which I highly recommend!

Beyonce sang the Etta James classic ‘At Last’. That’s a hard song to sing because it’s such a classic and no one can do it like she did. With that said, Beyonce did a lovely job. And you know I suffer from Beyonce Backlash. For those of you that don’t know what that is, I’m so annoyed by the hype, that I’d rather avoid her. I think she’s talented and wish her the best, I’d just rather not see or hear too much of her.

Fergie did a tribute to Debbie Harry [former?] lead singer of Blondie. I like to see artists out of their element, performing songs that they haven’t sang trillions of times before, songs that weren’t custom made for for their style. Every time I’ve seen Debbie Harry before, she looks like someone tricked her into getting out of bed. Her look proves tonight that older women can be sexy and provocative and still look their age. LL Cool J was looking like some sexual caramel as he introduced cutie Chris Brown who revisited the Sam Cooke classic, “Cupid” before doing his own song “Forever”.

They did a tribute to Motown which included Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Mary J. Blige, and Beyonce. JT rocked it out to Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up”. He strayed away from MJ/Jackson Five which however enjoyable would have been predictable. What wasn’t predictable was the Kid Rock/MJB duet of the Temptations’ “I’m Losing You”. His collab with MJB was much more entertaining than his collab on Sunday with Lil Wayne. MJB gave him feigned attitude and he look like he was eating it up.

Mariah Carey looked fierce as she sang her new song “That Chick you like” in a dress that was not made for dancing.

Kid rock later came back and did his song All Summer Long and it went over way better than Sunday Night. Since this is Fashion Rocks, you know the clothes that everyone is wearing so expensive regular people can only salivate, but looked like his same old self in his black pants and T-Shirt. It’s probably not one of those tees you wanna mow the lawn in. Although Kid Rock strikes you as the kind of guy who still mows the lawn!

The set featuring OneRepublic, Chris Cornell and the Pussycat Dolls. Although he was the glue for the performance, we didn’t really need to see him…In a show featuring Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, and the Pussycat Dolls, we also got to see Beyonce’s little sister Solange perform her catchy new song, “I Decided.” The Black Eyed Peas killed it with a rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “I Miss You”. The show closed out with an all-star charity song to end breast cancer. To contribute, visit www.standup2cancer.org
