Do We Really Need More Grammys?

I, for one, like the Grammys. Since winners are voted on by their peers, it is the one award show where a talented artist can win even if the public has never heard their music. And I actually enjoy the performances when they plan collaborations with artists that I wouldn’t see together otherwise. However, customarily, the day after the Grammys, I hear listeners call into random radio stations and complain about the show. Then I read where the the 2008 Grammy ratings were low. Of course there are a variety of reasons for this, but you can imagine my surprise when I saw that the Grammy people decided to belabor the point by producing a 1 hour announcement show. Taylor Swift and LL Cool J hosted the dismal event, where even the artists couldn’t even take the show seriously.

No doubt the Grammys wanted to capitalize on the best thing about their show, the music, and scheduled artists to do cover songs that are in the Grammy hall of fame. If your favorite artists were on the show, you would have enjoyed their performance. I personally enjoyed the performance by Christina Aguilera and collaboration between BB King and John Mayer.
