If You Want To SING and ACT, Take It To Broadway

I caught this video the other morning and thought…another actor trying to sing.

I’ve heard some artist say that it is a natural transition between acting and singing. A singer creates a character for the stage, so it is natural that they could create a character for the screen. And there have been some singers that have made a successful transition to acting: Will Smith, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Justin Timberlake, T.I..

And then other artists haven’t had the best of luck: Madonna. The jury is still out of Mariah Carey (let’s see how she does in Precious). There are arguments on Janet Jackson.

Anyway, actors who have moved to singing, aren’t quite as lucky (with the exception of the Disney alumni). Yes actors have bands: Billy Bob Thornton, Jada Pinkett Smith, Kevin Bacon, Jared Leto. But regardless of tastes, only Jared Leto has reached an equal number of success in his band as his acting career (because many of you are reading this and wondering who the hell Jared Leto is). The success rate of actors as singers begs the question: should actors sing?

I don’t mind hearing an actor guest star on a song like Leighton does on this track. I think it is kind of cool to see her being someone other than Blair. But beyond that, I have to say leave the singing to the singers.

Let me just clarify that there are plenty actors that can sing. I think they go to broadway.
