The Biggest Loser is Back

Now that the Olympics are over, we can go from watching athletes at the top of their game physically compete for bronze, silver and gold, to watching obese contestants physically compete for half a million dollars. The Biggest Loser returns to NBC tonight.

While we watch the contestants huff it out for up to eight hours a day, wear arm monitors and follow a strict diet, it is crazy to me that some people still believe that they can pop a pill and lose weight.

Christie Christensen has filed a lawsuit against Jillian Michaels and others over the trainer’s Calorie Control pills. “Telling people you take two magic pills and then eat chocolate cake all day [and lose weight] is a deception,” said Christensen’s lawyer, Melissa Hartnett. Whether or not the pill makes false claims is for a judge to decide – what confuses me is why are people still believing that there is any pill that will make you lose weight?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about wishful thinking (that’s why I buy lottery tickets and purchase a size smaller at The Limited). But hasn’t it been proven over and over again that pills that make these claims don’t work and are sometimes even harmful to your health (think ephedra).
