Marshall and Lily Pick a New Bed
On tonight’s episode of How I Met Your Mother, Marshall and Lily buy twin beds. Sounds easy enough, but if you’ve ever had a jacked up night of sleep in the wrong bed, you know finding the right bed is key. The average person keeps their mattress for seven to 10 years. That is a loooooong time for a poor night’s sleep. When choosing a mattress, there are a few things you should look for:
Size
The reason that I put this as number one is that I’ve spent the night in a bed that I was afraid I would fall out. Lemme tell you, not a good night. You’ll have to watch HIMYM to find out why Lily and Marshall want twin beds, but I would guess that for most adults, a full size bed or larger works best.
Firmness
You can get a firm or soft bed. They say that firm beds offer better back support, but great back support may not mean good sleep.
Specialty beds
As a staunch member of “Team Soft”, I am a big fan of the pillowtop mattresses. You can also choose from foam mattress, waterbeds or the traditional innerspring mattress. Or the mattress that allow you to adjust each side of the bed. I once worked in a Linens and Things, and after a long day, some of us (not me, of course), would sneak over to the Tempurpedic sample bed. One day…
Don’t forget to update the bed support (box spring) when purchasing a new mattress.
