Losing It While Dancing Your Ass Off

As you know, I eat up weight loss TV (yup, not only did I make the stupid pun, but it’s not the first time). I can totally relate to the emotional journey of the contestants and I like to see people succeed, but it is important to remember that these TV shows are about ENTERTAINMENT. A recent study from Ohio State University suggested that people with a BMI in the overweight range are generally not at a higher risk for current health problems compared to people of normal weight, regardless of age.

This isn’t the first study that questions the term “healthy”. It is a reminder to the rest of us, that we need to question the term as well. These shows often simplify the relationship between the number on the scale, which may in some cases oversimplify that relationship.  Nonetheless, I will be checking out Jillian’s show, Losing It, which airs tonight.  I will also be watching Dance Your Ass Off, which premieres next Monday, June 7th at 11 P.M. While eating snacks.
