Hot Enough

TVLand debuted its first original sitcom last night, Hot in Cleveland. The show has been getting a lot of press, partially due to Betty White’s resurgence in popularity. Someone said Cleveland is the new Golden Girls. That’s a lot of weight for a new sho to bear, especially a pilot. The story began a bit trite: Middle-aged, newly divorced woman (Valerie Bertinelli) runs into ex-husband on a plane with new girlfriend half his age. But all is not lost. There are some really good lines in this show, not all of them made by Betty White. The plane makes an emergency landing in Cleveland, which is a far cry from L.A.

What I enjoyed most about the show is the relationship between girlfriends. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that although most TV is fake, there have been some honest shows about the relationships between female friends, Golden Girls being one of those shows. Where this show excels is the ability between the women to rally around one another. FYI, that whole rumor about women being catty is bullshit. Nothing is better than when the world knocks youdown, for your girl to say, “stop your whining let’s get him.”

In fact, I challenge any woman who says she can’t get along with women to take a good long look in the mirror. And any man who says it — never trust a man who pretends to know anything about women.

My favorite line of the night: That’s why the Internet was invented, so men could look at naked women and women can cyberstalk the men they trust.
